UN and UNESCO released that in Laos only 50% of girls aged 12-17 attend school. Girls are pivotal to the success of a community and providing girls with educational opportunities is the single most significant way of improving the health and education of the entire community. With this in mind we partnered with Community Learning International (CLI) to build a 60 bed dormitory in Pou Luang Middle School which is in a rural and isolated district forty mins north of Laos.
This is Global Hand Charity’s major project for 2015 and involves a total expenditure of US$45,000, or US$600 per bed. The dormitory contains space for 100 girls, currently there are 63 beds occupied by girls between the ages of nine and sixteen. Some of the girls are keen to become doctors, teachers and lawyers.
